There are a lot of social issues throughout the world around us, however sometimes there are problems around us and in our community that we are not aware of. In a recent series in the Miami Herald called "Poverty Peddlers" revealed what the Miami-Dade Empowerment Trust was doing with the people of Miami's money. They were revealed spending millions of dollars on insider deals and risky loans that created few promised jobs. The newspapers investigation by reporters Scott Hiaaseen and Jason Grotto showed the anti poverty agency steered hundreds of thousands of dollars to companies owned by board members and politically connected business leaders. Miami-Dade is already one of the poorest counties in America in matter of average capita, the people do not need to have well needed money taken away from them and job opportunities lost. I think that this this organization needs to be rebuilt from scratch and anyone involved be relieved of there duties. This problem is a lot bigger then it seems, there are many families not able to afford meals everyday and this organization is not doing there jobs in helping these families. My friend asked me about the topic a few days ago and i read up on some of what was going on. It upset me and thats why I felt that this was a good social issue to brign up.
