Final words

Well i would first like to talk about my experiences in 1101. They were sure a lot diferent then i was expecting. I thought it was less of a writing class and more of an english and grammar class. I was wrong, but luckily I got a great teacher who helped us get through our first semester of college. I learned a lot and am glad that i chose her to be my teacher. I enjoyed joking aroudn in class and am happy I got to meet everyone that i did. Now to the essay: The essay was a little more dificult then i had presumed. I was taking it lightly when i heard the subject, but there was not as much information out there as i thought there would be. The toughest part was expanding the essay to four pages when i thought i was already done with ideas after two and a half. I enjoyed coming up with all the information and it helped me learn a lot on the subject. This was a great first semester, Thanks Natasha. :)

Taboooooo

I watched the video where the woman have the rings on their necks first. This was not a huge deal to me, I am sure there was probally a powerful woman who was there when the tribe started, and she began this tradition. Once it is passed on from generations it becomes normal. In our civilization to see anyone with these rings on their neck would be out of the norm, but in theirs it is weird ot not have them. I dont see how this helps them in any way but I respect the fact that this is part of their culture and probally will be until the end of there time.

This second video of the male tribes was somewhat frightening. I could feel the pain that the boys in the video were suffering. I couldnt imagine having to go through that in order to be considered normal or a man in society. The painful cuts that are placed all over the boys body are supposed to represent becoming a man and a way for the elders to show the young ones their authority. I can understand why tribes would do this, they want there young men to respect their elders and do so in a way that they will never forget. Although this would probally not be accepted as normal for people in a American Civilization. I wouldn't accept this way of being in my civilization although i respect their choices and realize this is a tradition they will probally continue forever.

The College Life

The college life isnt the life I thought it'd be. The looong drive to school every day of the week, the looong wait to park everyday and the loooong walks to class make college not very fun. I used to look forward to waking up and coming to school to see all of my lifelong friends, now it will be a suprise if I see more then 1 or 2 people that i know alllll day. The work isnt as bad as i thought it would be, except in this class. Its 10 times as much work I was expecting. I never realy had to worry about much in my english class, just an occasional essay and grammar worksheet. Im taking six classes just like i did in high school but it seems like alot more. But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. This is Kyle KO, signing out. Peace.

Poverty Peddlers

There are a lot of social issues throughout the world around us, however sometimes there are problems around us and in our community that we are not aware of. In a recent series in the Miami Herald called "Poverty Peddlers" revealed what the Miami-Dade Empowerment Trust was doing with the people of Miami's money. They were revealed spending millions of dollars on insider deals and risky loans that created few promised jobs. The newspapers investigation by reporters Scott Hiaaseen and Jason Grotto showed the anti poverty agency steered hundreds of thousands of dollars to companies owned by board members and politically connected business leaders. Miami-Dade is already one of the poorest counties in America in matter of average capita, the people do not need to have well needed money taken away from them and job opportunities lost. I think that this this organization needs to be rebuilt from scratch and anyone involved be relieved of there duties. This problem is a lot bigger then it seems, there are many families not able to afford meals everyday and this organization is not doing there jobs in helping these families. My friend asked me about the topic a few days ago and i read up on some of what was going on. It upset me and thats why I felt that this was a good social issue to brign up.
